“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” Pablo Picasso
As a 6 year old child, I took oil painting classes from a neighbourhood art teacher in my home town of Port Perry, Ontario. I would paint sunsets, reflections in the water, and silhouetted trees along the shores of Lake Scugog.
The “Group of Seven” played a large role in the development of my artistic style, as I often visited the McMichael Collection in Kleinburg as a high school student. At times, even casually chatting with A.Y. Jackson.
I went on to study Fine Art at both Queen’s University and the University of Toronto. I have painted along side of such influential artists as Jack Reid. My work has been featured in juried exhibitions across Canada.
My studio-galleries in Chatham and Calgary, provided a venue to meet and sell paintings to art lovers and businesses around the world. I have lived across Canada and have painted from coast to coast.
As a teacher, I have shared my enthusiasm for creating art with students from 5 to 85! “The Psychology of Colour” was the month-long exhibit at the Calgary Science Centre which featured my work.
More recently, I have been working on large impressionistic paintings. I enjoy using different sizes and shapes of canvases, as it challenges my application of colour and line. I will use palette knives, brushes, drips, or splashes . . . whatever it takes to create the movement in my paintings! Heavy texture is another mainstay of my artwork. Daring and uninhibited use of colour allow my paintings to take on a life of their own. Hopefully they will capture a moment in your imagination as well.
Today, I paint in the beautiful Thousand Islands, Ontario, where my studio cabin in the woods has a view of the St. Lawrence River.
